The Institute of the Motor Industry Heavy Vehicle Tyre Fitting Course

The IMI Heavy Vehicle Tyre Fitting course is a 3 day course aimed at specialist tyre fitters working on commercial vehicles.  Candidates must have a minimum of 3 months practical heavy vehicle tyre fitting experience and possess good communication skills.

Successful candidates will receive an IMI Quality Approved Award in Heavy  Vehicle Tyre Fitting. This award is recognised throughout the motor industry and will count as a credit towards the nationally recognised Technical Certificate in Vehicle Fitting as well as forming part of the Vehicle Fitting NVQ

• Heavy Vehicle Tyre construction identification
• Heavy Vehicle Wheel rim identification
• Heavy Vehicle Tyre sidewall markings
• Construction & Use regulations
• Limits of wear and serviceability
• Fault identification methods
• Tyre and inner tube repair to BSAU 159f

Course Content: Practical

• Tyre inspection and fault reporting
• Safe vehicle jacking
• Safe removal and replacement of road wheels
• Safe tubeless tyre removal and replacement
• Safe tyre and inner tube repairs
• Safe tyre regrooving

IMI assessment and test

• A multi-choice theory question paper
• Five practical assessments, observed by an IMI approved assessor.
